BUS SEATS & COFFEE SHOPS

I often wonder what Earth would say if she could speak.  What would be her account, as the ever-present on-looker?

She has hosted multitudes and generations.
She has witnessed events, great and small.

If she were a great orator, how would she tell the ancient love story between God and his people?

And yet, she does speak.

Earth and her great host of created things all bear witness.  She groans with pains, and she longs to see the sons and daughters of God become all who they were intended to be.  She knows better than anyone about the state of humanity.  Her face is strewn with people hungry, broken, wanting…

Wanting salvation from their condition.

If we’d only listen, we would hear her story about a God whose love is unending and power unmatched.

Her whispers are all about.

She reminds us as loudly as we choose to hear that our wanting is not in vain, our hope is fulfilled, and our answer has reached us.

Love came down.

Not to a palace or a decadent suite, but tucked away in a stable, in a humble manger, many, many years ago, lay a newborn child. Her stars sung, and flocks of sheep in distant fields were awakened as Heaven itself announced the arrival of humanity’s Saving Grace.

In that moment Earth knew, even better than we did, just Who had graced us.

To our generation, like every other, Earth would encourage us to look around.

Glance across the office, the street, the coffee shop, the bus seat, and remember now is the time, in fact it is high time, to herald the hope-filled life-bearing message;

Love came down.

I often wonder how will Earth recall my generation.  What will be her account of our interactions and our ways?

Today she waits with baited breath, for the manifestation of the sons and daughters of God.

Tomorrow she will tell the story.
