SITTING UNDER APPLE TREES
When you release an object cradled in your hand, it will fall to the ground. Every time. Not 50 per cent of the time. Not 99 per cent of the time. But every time, it will fall to the ground.
It’s called the Law of Gravity. It is a Natural Law. Whether you do it once or a thousand times, it will always fall. So too certain behaviours incite Spiritual responses every time. There are certain actions that always enlist a predetermined outcome. They are Spiritual Laws.
Imagine disputing gravity with Newton.
“Hello Sir Newton. Well I just have a small matter to discuss with you. I’ve thought about your law of universal gravitation and I find it quite inconvenient. It really doesn’t suit me to be bound by this law that all things being drawn by the Earth’s gravitational pull must fall downwards. I don’t like it and so I’ve decided not to ascribe to it. Thanks, but no thanks. Isaac, you can keep gravity to yourself.”
Sir Isaac Newton would probably just look at you and say, “Suit yourself. It makes no difference to me whether you believe in or agree with the law of gravity. Your opinion doesn’t stop gravity from being true or effecting every area of your life. Gravity is gravity regardless of whether we believe in it or not.”
Much like an atheist’s claims that God doesn’t exist will not cause Him to cease existing, or make Him any less powerful or any less loving.
Some things just are, whether we accept them to be true or not.
For the most part you are subject to the ‘Planet Earth Rule Book’. You can’t escape or overcome these rules. They just are what they are – cause and affect. There are patterns, there are systems and there are Natural Laws that confine us.
Until you are presented with the reality of Jesus and you have the opportunity to respond to Him. At this point you can be born again into a new blood line and become the recipient of Grace.
Grace is a supernatural gift that cannot be quantified or fully explained. Grace gives you access to forgiveness of sin, freedom from past patterns and the ability to live a supernatural life.
It is Grace that takes us from the natural limitations of life into the realm of supernatural possibility
Now you have the opportunity to tap into the Super-Natural Laws that are at play. You can tap into unmerited blessing and favour. You’re no longer bound by the natural, by flesh and blood; you have access to authority and power that supersede all of that.
“Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the one who asked why.” Bernard Baruch
When your experience doesn’t mirror the Word of God, you must ask “WHY?”
Don’t drag the Word of God down to your experience.
Bring your experience up the Word of God.
You have to figure out what is missing in that gaping hole between the two. “Why does my experience not line up with the Word of God? Which Spiritual Law am I missing?”
It really is the amazing Grace and opportunity granted to a Jesus-follower – to tap into a realm that is superior to the common code of life. We need to understand there is so much more at play than what our natural senses perceive (Eph 6: 12).
When we come alive in the Spirit, we live according to the Spirit, not the natural flesh anymore. We seek to understand the Spiritual truths of the Kingdom so that we can understand why the proverbial Spiritual apple falls to the ground every time.
God’s Word is true – every time!
Spiritual Laws work – every time!
Not 50 per cent of the time.
Not 99 per cent of the time.
But every time!
What God prescribed in Scripture is exactly what will take place in your life. If it’s not lining up, then ask “Why?” Which Spiritual Law are you yet to come to terms with?
Here are a few clinchers:
If God created everything with the Word of His mouth, and I have the power of life and death in my tongue (Pr 18:21) then I’d better be speaking life. It’s the Spiritual Law of confession.
If my future is determined by today’s sowing, then I’d better be sowing generously today (2 Cor 9:6). It’s the Spiritual Law of sowing.
If my car is breaking down, the washing machine has stopped, and the house was broken into, then I have to ask why the prowling devourer has access to my life (Malachi 3:8-12). It’s the Spiritual Law of giving.
If familiarity and contempt have the power to restrict the Hand of God in my life (Matt 13:59) but respecting authority releases supernatural miracles (Luke 7:1-10) then I’d better be learning and applying the Spiritual Law of honour.
If I’m feeling down, distant and alone then I should swiftly apply the Spiritual Law of thanksgiving that transfers authority back to God (Ps 56:3-4), lifts my countenance (Ps 42: 11), and changes my actual dwelling location into His very presence (Ps 100: 4).
Imagine refuting the Law of Gravity with Newton; now imagine refuting Spiritual Law with our Jesus. I can imagine Him looking back at me, loving me, and softly saying,
“Karolina, you can choose to contest my ways, but your rejection of them will not cause their power to cease. These Spiritual Laws exist for your benefit, not mine, and they work every time – whether you ascribe to them or not.”
Our humanity screams out for freedom. We wrongly believe that freedom is an absence of boundaries. A life lived in this way quickly becomes a different type of bondage altogether. For every action there is a corresponding opposite reaction (Newton’s Third Law). Our actions in exercise of so-called freedom all and always invite a consequence.
Freedom is not doing whatever we want to. Freedom is the opportunity to choose what thing it is we will do.
True freedom is choice
You and I have the freedom to choose, by our actions, which corresponding reaction we want to usher in to our reality.
