SUDDENLY
People who are 'overnight success' stories will often say it felt like the longest night of their lives.
‘Suddenly’ moments are usually underscored by a long line reaching well back into years of focus, energy and diligence.
We love the ‘suddenly’ stories and the ‘lucky breaks’ because they motivate us, and so they should. They are real and they do happen.
They just happen to individuals who do the right things over a long period of time.
Simon and Andrew were mending their fishing nets, unaware that the Messiah was watching (Matt 4). Can you picture it? Just another day on the water. Just another day in the office.
I find it interesting that Jesus didn’t go into the synagogues to find disciples. Jesus went looking among those who were in the market place providing for their families, for their world.
Here we have two fishermen, doing their usual thing. Totally unaware that Jesus was going to change not just their careers but their lives that day.
all of a sudden He was there.
Bringing change
Bringing future
Bringing favour and direction
Rebekah was drawing water from well, as was her daily custom, when one unexpected day she was married into the richest living family (Gen 24). The monotonous task of daily carrying water to her family was what positioned her for a 'suddenly' moment.
I have seen it over and over again: the evident searching of the Lord for faithful and humble individuals who He might call out into greatness. Too many times to count, I’ve witnessed ‘suddenly’ moments bestowed on faithful people with longevity.
God intercepts us when we least expect it.
He watches for consistency and humbleness and waits for the perfect time to intercept our lives with a new opportunity.
The Samaritan woman at the well was also doing her tedious daily routine in the midst of personal turmoil and loss, when she met her Saviour and was transformed from outcast to evangelist in a ‘suddenly healed’ moment.
At a well she met Jesus who offered her “living water”. He told her things about her life that no one else knew and sent her into her future with new revelation and power
God even intercepts the worst kinds of people.
Remember Saul, who became Paul? A man going around, killing and imprisoning Christians. Believing he was honestly doing the will of God, one day Saul was again actively on his way to persecute Christians when the resurrected Jesus literally knocked him off his high horse. Saul received salvation, turned from his ways and went on to plant Churches, evangelize the known world, train leaders and write most of the New Testament.
GOD STEERS A MOVING SHIP!
We know that a tiny little rudder maneuvers an enormous ocean liner. The slightest adjustment to the rudder can completely change the course and destination of a ship.
In the dock, that same small rudder can work its little heart out but the ocean liner will not move an inch. The liner needs to have momentum in order for the rudder to have any affect.
Same with the will of God!!!
Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV)
9 A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
GOD’S PLAN WILL ONLY HAVE AFFECT IF YOU ARE IN MOTION.
GOD INTERCEPTS MOBILE PEOPLE.
Don’t wait for Him to kick start you, because He won't.
Get up and get moving!!
Your 'suddenly' awaits.
